Bent and Krug Selected Finlandia University Student-Athletes of the Year

Denia Bent (softball) and Joey Krug (baseball) were named the 2017-18 Finlandia University Female and Male Student-Athletes of the Year. They received their awards at halftime of the Finlandia-Concordia (Wis.) football game on Sept. 1, 2018.

Bent helped the Lions go 21-12 and repeat as ACAA (American Collegiate Athletic Association) Tournament champions.

Bent had 12 doubles, five triples, scored 61 runs, drove in 32 runs, stole 31 bases and batted .506. In the circle, she had a 10-5 record, threw the second perfect game in school history, struck out 72 batters and had a 2.55 E.R.A. in 104.3 innings.

Bent led NCAA Division III with 1.85 runs per game. She was also second with a .669 on-base percentage and ranked among the top 15 in four other categories.

Bent also received the following accolades: All-ACAA first team, National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Great Lakes Region third team and FastPitch News NCAA D3 All-American first team.

Krug helped FinnU qualify for the CUNYAC (City University of New York Athletic Conference) tournament, the first post-season bid in school history. Finlandia entered as the sixth seed and finished in third place.

Krug had eight extra base hits, scored 11 runs, drove in 19 runs and hit .330. On the mound, his 2-4 record does not show how dominate he was for the Lions as he had six complete games, struck out 37 batters and had a 2.57 ERA in 42 innings.

Krug finished the season ranked among the top 15 in NCAA DIII in complete games (7^th) and hits per nine innings (14^th - 5.57). In addition he was named to the CUNYAC All-Star team.
