Finlandia Picks Up Winning Season

The 2022 Finlandia University men's soccer team recorded its second winning season in school history, first in seven years. The Lions (7-6-4) had eight additions to the record book, two Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Players of the Week, two All-C2C selections and a C2C award winner.

In addition to the four ties, FinnU lost five games by one goal each. It was a tough schedule which saw eight opponents qualify for the post-season. Five teams played in national tournaments including UW-Eau Claire (NCAA).

Finlandia got off to a slow start opening up 0-2-3. The Lions caught fire going 7-4-1 the rest of the way. FinnU had wins over NCCAA qualifiers Great Lakes Christian and Maranatha Baptist during this stretch.

All-C2C second team honors went to freshmen Chinedu Ikem and Christian Mendoza-Huynh. Senior Brendan Christian was named the C2C Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Christian went on to be named to the CSC (College Sports Communicators) Academic All-District team. He is the first male athlete in school history to earn this honor.
