Mission
To educate and support Finlandia University student-athletes beyond the classroom, field, court, and ice.
 
Components
 
Academic Compliance Meeting:  All teams are required to meet with Student-Athlete Academic Success Coach Grace Sokolow and Academic Success Coach Veronica Horning during the first four weeks of school to discuss academic compliance.  The first semester schedule map is completed during this time. 
 
Schedule Mapping:  All student-athletes will complete a schedule map to visualize their academic and athletic commitments.

 
Learning Labs:  All first year student-athletes and incoming transfers are required to complete their 2 hours of scheduled learning labs. Any student-athlete under 30 credits, not matter the GPA will complete 2 hours of required Learning Labs.  Any student-athlete with an overall GPA below 2.75 will complete 2 hours of Learning Labs.

LEARNING LAB / TUTORING REQUEST
 
Tutoring:  Tutoring is available from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm Monday through Friday in Nikander 10.  Both professional tutoring and peer tutoring is available.
 
Learning Labs:  Learning labs are scheduled from 8am to 5pm Monday through Thursday.
 
Office Learning:  Student-athletes will be required to designate at least one hour a month of monitored study to "office learning" – actively seeking out a professor during their posted office hours.
 
Skills Workshops:  All student-athletes are required to complete one skills workshop per semester.  Topics include but are not limited to time management, communication, college survival, problem-solving, leadership, wellness, cooking, and financial organization.
 
Bring in the Bystander Training:   All student-athletes are required to complete Bring in the Bystander intervention training with Erin Barnett no later than the end of the first week of school.

 
Learning Outcomes
 
Personal Responsibility:  Student-athletes will foster a sense of personal responsibility for their own successes (and failures):  in the classroom, on the field, court, and ice, and beyond.
 
Integrity:  Student-athletes will do the right thing, the right way, for the right reasons.
 
Development:  Student-athletes will develop physically, emotionally, and mentally into young adults ready for life after Finlandia.
 
Growth:  Student-athletes will embody a growth mindset:  in the classroom, on the field, court, and ice, and beyond.
 
Awards
 
Lion's Den Scholar-Athlete:  For learning lab attendance.

All-Finlandia Academic Teams:  For overall GPA.
            First Team: 3.75-4.0
            Second Team: 3.5-3.749
            Third Team:  3.25-3.499
            Honorable Mention:  3.0-3.249

Team Academic Award:  For highest overall team GPA (two awards, one men's and one women's).

SISU Award:  For persistence, problem solving, and overcoming obstacles (one per team).
